We Bring More Than Just A Meal

Meals-on-Wheels of White Plains (#MOWWP) delivers more than just food. We deliver some companionship to people who otherwise might be alone all day. We deliver independence to neighbors who are now able to stay in their own home. We deliver security. Part of our responsibility is to serve as a “safety check” on our clients and calling 911 or family members in case of an emergency.

Any person living in the City of White Plains who is unable to shop for or prepare meals for themselves, regardless of age or income, is eligible to receive Meals-on-Wheels. We welcome referrals from doctors, hospitals, social workers, family members, and of course, from potential clients themselves. To apply for Meals-on-Wheels please download and use the forms on our Contact Us page. Our phone number is (914) 946-6878.

As of Monday, July 7th, 2025 Meals-on-Wheels is now delivering one entrée per day with sides and beverage, and is no longer providing two meals per day. In addition, effective July 7th, there is now a waiting list for Meals-on-Wheels service in White Plains.

These changes are due to the

  • Increased cost of providing our service, primarily the cost of food – up over 56% in the last 10 years, and 3.3% in the last year alone.
  • Decreases in Federal funding over time, both in actual dollars and in not keeping pace with inflation’s impact on the cost of food.
  • Expenditure of our cash reserves to continue providing service to those in need of meals, despite increased costs and decreased funding to the point where doing so is no longer sustainable.

Who We Are

Meals-on-Wheels of White Plains (#MOWWP) is a non-profit organization made up of volunteers with a commitment to delivering both food and compassion to our neighbors in need. Meals-on-Wheels of White Plains (#MOWWP) serves members of our community who are unable to shop or prepare adequate meals themselves.

We deliver a delicious and nutritionally balanced meal for each weekday – one hot entrée with the appropriate sides and beverage. A professional dietitian has carefully planned our menu. Our goal is to bring each client a smile and meals that taste great, look pleasing, and meet their special health needs (i.e. – medically appropriate meals). All of our meals have no added salt and low cholesterol ingredients. Special diets available upon request include: diabetic, renal, soft and chopped meals, and those related to food allergies and aversions. At this time we cannot honor requests for pureed or truely gluten free diets.
